Innovative Approaches to Integrating Nutrition with Occupational Safety & Health: Driving Results for a Healthier Workforce

Reliance Industries Wellbeing Framework

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL): India

Good nutrition is the foundation of good health, yet it’s often overlooked in workplace well-being programs. Although Nutrition is not fully integrated into the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) framework, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), a Fortune Global 500 company and India’s largest private sector enterprise, is challenging that norm by integrating nutrition into its employee wellness initiatives.

From the launch of wellbeing initiatives such as the R-Swasthya program—covering physical, mental, social, financial, and spiritual well-being—to targeted efforts to manage Non-Communicable Diseases like the Diabetes Control Mission and Hypertension Control Mission, RIL is making workforce nutrition a priority. Employees can now access healthier meals, personalized diet plans, and workplace fitness activities, encouraging long-term behaviour change.

This case study, developed by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) for the International Labour Organization (ILO), highlights Reliance’s efforts to integrate nutrition into the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). While there’s still room to fully embed nutrition into OSH frameworks, Reliance is demonstrating that when businesses invest in employee health, everyone benefits.
